ARRIVED! Let the Fun Begin

















 Arrived in Cape Town. All travel went smoothly. Flights were not very full so on our long hauls we had 1 or 2 empty seats between us to be able to lie down some. The chocolate treats Nicole and Burt got for travel helped too. They disappeared during the 3 flights and I completed one entire book “The Good Sister”.  Actually, not too tired when we arrived at 10:30 am. Cape Town has had lots of rain recently and had some sprinkles on our way to beautiful Cape Grace Hotel.  We had a very friendly driver meet us at the airport for our transport to hotel. They are very COVID conscious here. Masks everywhere inside and out and no alcohol in public after 8 with a curfew at 10. The concierge explained that the alcohol limits are due to increased domestic violence that  hospitals need to save space for COVID. They are starting a decline now from 3rd wave.  

Looking forward to exploring this city. Our hotel is right on the water with Table Mountain in view which we will visit tomorrow along with Cape of Good Hope. We had some treats including local wines, macaroons, and a nice day bag in the room as a welcome gift.

Chobe National Park

 After breakfast we disembark the Queen for the jet boats to take us back to Namibia immigration and Botswana immigration for the same process of health forms and passports before we get to land cruisers to take us to the Chobe national park for wildlife viewing. Our walk to Namibia immigration office.  A cow greets Burt. We have two land cruisers with people and a third vehicle to transport a lunch for us in the park. Bert and I are in the jeep with one other couple and our driver is the owner of this Safari company. Rex and his wife Batima have lived in Kasane, Botswana for a number of years.  Batima is from Germany and the two of them in addition to running the tour company also run a restaurant in Kasane. Drive Along Coastline to Cape of Good Hope

 Last night was our meet and greet with tour group.  We have tour guide Delia and a trainee Lucky and one other couple besides us so far. Another couple missed the flight to keep town and arrived today that we have not met yet.  Unfortunately, one couple scheduled to be on the tour had to evacuate for hurricane Ida and will not be on our tour. Our drive today started at the hotel at 8:30 and we drove along the coast mostly through cable pool table Mountain national Park. There were lots of bikers and runners all along the road. Many times two narrow lanes of traffic and bikers and runners all sharing the same two lanes. Many of these are training for a huge competition that takes place in March each year.  Also a public outdoor gym was located on the beach. It is much cooler than normal here and they have had an exceptional winter with enough rainfall to fill a reservoir that was down to less than 5% four years ago.  Of course, I was very comfortable in the cool...

Victoria Falls

 Is was kind of sad to leave the Zambezi Queen.  We were treated so well and the scenery was wonderful.such friendly service staff.  We had a final dinner and took a group photo before leaving. The entire tour group is going on to Victoria Falls.  Again, we go through health forms and immigration to leave Namibia, enter Botswana, leave Botswana and enter Zimbabwe.  The town of Victoria Falls has a population of 60,000.  It is small but they have several very nice hotels and a couple grocery stores and quite a few small curio and clothing shops. We are on the main highway through Africa again and trucks are lined up a half mile trying to get through the border.  Most are carrying copper from the mines in Zambia which is exported.  We are told it can take up to two weeks to cross the border.
